Ayke Agus is originally from Indonesia with chinese, dutch and javanese ancestry. She was a prodigy child who played violin and piano at the age of 7. She later migrated to the United States to continue with her studies in New York.
After winning several competitions, she became the youngest member of the Buffalo Philharmonic Symphony. Then followed two full scholarship offers at Juilliard School of Music (Nueva York) and the University of Southern California at L.A. Her acceptance into the Jascha Heifetz masterclass at USC began an enduring collaboration with the great violinist until the end of his illustrious life.
While studying with Heifetz, Ms Agus also completed her Master’s degree at USC. She collaborated with Heifetz to complete many transcripts and posthumously completed, with the instructions of Heifetz, his unfinished transcript of Gershwin’s, An American in Paris.
Ayke Agus is a multi talented artist, violinist, teacher and pianist of unrivaled skills. Her long association with the great Jascha Heifetz, included many performances and chamber music concerts with the also acclaimed russian cellist Gregor Piatigorsky, in addition to her significant collaborations with Heifetz in completing his published transcripts for violin and piano.
She held a prominent position for 10 years as member of the USC piano faculty. Currently Agus participates regularly in chamber music festivals across the USA and performs in international renowned ensembles such as Ysaŷe String Quartet and Jacques Thibaud String Trio. Her solo appearances with symphony orchestras and solo recitals in US, Europe and Asia, receive excellent reviews, describing her unique violin/piano art as “Genius… with sensibility and emotion!”
Her most recent recordings for the Protone Records include Ayke Agus Doubles, in which she accompanies the piano with her own violin, playing various Heifetz piano/violin transcripts.
Ms Agus is member of the Pasadena Symphony and California Philharmonic. She travels across the US giving workshops of violin/piano and master classes in major universities where she acts as speaker/author, sharing her life experiences with teachers and students of all ages.
